Homework: Tool Analysis and Presentation
This homework will be done in pairs. You will prepare a tutorial presentation on how to conduct a data exploration using a real network dataset and an existing network exploration tool.
Part A
Pick your two-person team and one of the tools listed on the Resources page under the Network Exploration or Network Tools headings, then write a short proposal of your tutorial. You are welcome to use additional exploratory visualization and analysis tools but they require prior approval.
This team should be different from your final project team and your paper presentation team.
Create a Piazza post:
-
Make the title your names and the tool name, like so: ToolName – Name1, Name2
-
Choose the correct folder.
-
Ensure no other team has selected that tool already. If so, pick a new tool.
-
Describe the dataset you want to use, with source and links if possible.
Part B
Prepare a live demo and, if appropriate, additional video and/or slides that demonstrate a network data exploration using your chosen tool.
Present the tutorial to the class during our regularly scheduled lecture. Your presentation should:
-
Be 20 minutes long, including questions. Shoot for 15 minutes of content.
-
Highlight significant insights or findings in the network data.
-
Highlight key features of the tool, in the context of the topics listed in the course schedule.
-
Highlight usability problems or limitations of the tool.
-
Ensure all team members have the same amount of time to present and answer questions.
Please ensure you bring any necessary adapters, chargers, cables, etc. for presenting the tutorial on the projector. You will want to test this ahead of time.
